It is said that dogs are man's best friend and no man would like to lose their best friend. Dogs have a very strong sense of smell and they have the ability to track their owners no matter where they are with this power of smell. But yet sometimes they tend to lose their track and get lost. The owner becomes helpless and can do nothing about it but wait and hope for his dog to return one day. But these days are now past. The world is changing with the blink of an eye.

To the rescue of these masters GPS dog tracking systems have been introduced. The system of tracking your pet by the GPS equipments is very new. So many options are not there and the limited options available are quite expensive indeed. Most owners use dog tracking collars which have GPS systems.

GPS dog tracking collars are the most efficient among all the other pet tracking equipments. They can locate your pet inside the house or outside with a diameter range that varies for different companies. Not all pet tracking units can locate the pet indoors. GPS dog tracking collars are very fast in tracking both indoors and outdoors.

RoamEO is a GPS tracking device that does not use cell phone as modem but MURS band at 154.60MHz to locate your pet. It locates your pet within one mile in every direction and can track up to 3 pets at a time. But best part of it is it can be used even when there is no cell network coverage and there is no additional cost.

The Garmin Astro pet tracking device also does not use cell phones as modem and instead use VHF radio signals. Garmin Astro has a receiver which can track your dog's position in the densest covers. It is said to locate your dog within 5 miles in every direction depending on terrain and cant track up to 10 dogs at one time.

Micro chips are not GPS tracking systems like dog tracking collars. Micro chips are inserted in the bodies of the pets and they provide information about the owner of the dog such as your name, phone number, address and Vets number and phone number. So if your dog is lost, this information will help the person who finds the dog to return it to you. In order to use a microchip you have to sign up with a microchip company to activate the chip.

With the help of GPS dog tracking facility you do not have to worry every now and then where your dog is. You do not have to be alert for him all the time. These systems benefit the pet owners a lot and give them peace of mind.

Dog tracking collars are utilised by hunters who use their dogs to track game, usually birds. They can be used on all gun dogs and are mostly used on pointers as they normally cover the most ground when it comes to hunting. There are several different types of dog tracking collars available. The 2 most commonly used today are those that emit signals through radio frequency and GPS tracking collars that emit signals from satellite transmissions.

There are 2 parts to all tracking collar systems - the receiver and the transmitter. The transmitter is affixed to your dog's collar. Most receivers today are a collar with a small antenna. This is very light weight and are just as comfortable as a regular collar on your dog. The antenna will broadcast the signal to your receiver when your dog is hunting.

Radio frequency dog tracking systems work by sending signals to the receiver through radio frequencies. You normally have to adjust the receiver as it can tune on a many channels. Radio frequencies can be transmitted around buildings and trees, but they do get weaker when challenged with these obstacles. When you are hunting, you are most likely to run into trees, ravines and other areas where the signal will get weaker.

As your dog moves, you will be able to track him by getting signals from the receiver. The signals will get stronger as you get close to your dog. If you have a GPS dog tracking system, it'll tell you the precise distance of your dog. Traditional radio frequency dog tracking systems will not be able to tell you the distance but offer more of a range and distance than their GPS counterparts. Most radio frequency tracking systems have lights that blink to let you know when you are getting close to your dog so that you do not have to employ a beeping sound, which can scare away birds and confuse your dog.

it is a good idea to be familiar with using a dog tracking system before you take your dog out and go hunting. Hunters who aren't familiar with this kind of system may have a tough time using them to track their dogs. It's a good idea to practice tracking the transmitter before you really put it on the dog. You can do this by putting the transmitter somewhere that you can track it using the receiver before you use the system to track your dog.

When your dog is out on the hunt for birds and game, he does his job. You have got to let him out of your sight so that he can go about his business. But that being said, you don't wish to lose your dog. And this could happen if you are hunting in dense woods or massive open spaces. When you use a dog tracking system, you won't only be in a position to find your dog when he has retrieved or flushed game and birds, but you will be better equipped to find him if he gets lost.Dog tracking Collars
.

To win at the dog track, you have to be smarter than the people who are betting against you. Pari-mutuel betting, which is how we bet on greyhounds, is betting against the other people at the track - not against the track itself.

So, if you win, you're cashing in with other people's money. It's as simple as that. What isn't simple is how to learn how to handicap better than the crowd. If you ask any five people how they handicap dog races, you'll probably get five different answers.

One may handicap using speed figures. The next might use the pace of the race or the post position stats or the track bias. Some people actually use dice to pick dogs or birthdays or their lucky numbers. None of this is much help in teaching you how to develop your own handicapping method, is it?

So, what you have to do is figure out, by yourself, which factors you think matter the most when it comes to predicting which dogs will run in the money. Is it speed, pace, post position, running style, days from a layoff, trainer or kennel standings or which kennel is "hot" right now?

Or, and this makes more sense, is it a combination of some or all of those factors? But which ones are more important? And do they all apply equally to ALL the grades? Does what works in Grade A work in Grade D?

That doesn't sound likely, does it? So there you are, back to Square One again and thinking that maybe you'll take up something easier like rocket science or the stock market. But it doesn't have to be this way.

Take a deep breath. Get a program and start going over it slowly and without thinking about what other people have told you. Look for patterns. Look at how post position, speed, pace and running style affect each race.

Take your time and really study hundreds or even thousands of programs until you get a feel for how to pick contenders. That's how you develop YOUR system of greyhound handicapping. If you don't see anything, then maybe you need some help from someone with more experience.

Sooner or later, almost everyone who goes to the dog track wonders whether it's possible to make enough money to live off their track winnings.

Now that times are getting tougher and people are losing their jobs, more and more people will need to earn extra from something other than a regular job.

If you think that there's a possiblity that you could get good enough at picking dogs to make an income from it, you might be right. But just like any other career path, handicapping greyhounds for a living isn't something you can do with natural talent.

You need to train yourself to the point where you can pick enough winners to cover the dogs you pick that don't come in. It's rare that you can do this with just Win and Place bets. Usually, the people who make their living at the track are exotic bettors.

But exotic bets cost more and it's harder to pick two or three dogs than it is to pick one. This is why you need a good system to do it. You can come up with one yourself, if you're good enough. Or you can find one that someone else came up with.

Like a lot of handicappers, I use more than one system to help me make money at the dog track. My main system, Graded Greyhound Handicapping, works well, but when I add in the 2 Key Trifecta System and the Marks Method, I really hone in on dogs who want to win.

So, if you're determined to make greyhound handicapping pay the bills, make sure you prepare for it first and try out your system - whatever one you choose - on paper.

Don't give up your day job until you can show a profit on paper for at least three months. Even then, it's best to pay your bills ahead as far as possible before you launch your career as a full-time handicapper.

Be honest with yourself and your family and friends. Keep good records and pay taxes on your earnings. This is all part of making a living at the dog track and will help you in the long run.

Let me begin by saying that, of course, this is just my opinion. However, I have 30 years of experience to back it up and it's made money consistently. That said, of course there are people who disagree with me and think that this method is completely the opposite of the best method. I'll let you learn about it and then you can take it to the track and see if it works for you.

Most bettors who handicap races, rather than just pick numbers or go by hunches, start by looking for the best dog in the race. Well, that just makes sense, doesn't it? After all, the best dogs win and winners pay off. So why wouldn't you want to find the best dog and then bet on it?

Well, the first reason that springs to my mind is that it's almost impossible - even in stakes races - to determine one best dog. There are almost always at least 2 or 3 dogs with similar stats, any of which could run in the money. How do you pick a "best dog" out of those dogs?

Second, finding a one best dog, even if you could do it, is fine for betting win bets, but what if you want to bet quinielas or trifectas? Betting that dog to come in first in quinielas and trifectas with all 7 other dogs is mighty pricey.

The third reason I don't like the one best dog method, is that it eliminates 7 dogs, any of whom could surprise. That's why my handicapping method is exactly the opposite of the one best dog method. I pick winners by eliminating the worst dogs. The dogs I really don't think are contenders for one or more of several reasons.

When I handicap my program, I try to eliminate at least four dogs in each race. If I can't do that right off the bat, I don't play the race. It's not just because I usually bet 4-dog quiniela boxes, although that's part of it. It's also because I've found that if I can't eliminate four dogs, the race is too hard for me to handicap consistently.

Maybe there are better handicappers who can do it the other way, by picking the best dog and just wheeling it. If they can, more power to them, but it doesn't work for me. I suspect that it doesn't work for a lot of people, which is why 90% of the crowd at a dog track loses and only 10% of them win.

I'd like to think that my method of handicapping is one reason I'm almost always in the 10% who win.

I've gotten more questions about making a living at the dog track from my readers than any other subject. I can't figure out why this is, but it raises some interesting points.

* I'm not the only one who knows that there are people who make a living at the dog track
* A lot of people are very dissatisfied with the jobs they have now and would like to do something else for a living
* Someone needs to write a book about how to make a living at the dog track

That's not going to be me, however, although at the present time, my income does come mostly from handicapping. It wasn't always this way. When I was younger, I had a "regular job" to support my family and the track was only a some-time thing, mostly for entertainment and a little extra "fun" cash.

That changed when we needed a downpayment on a house and had no other way to get it other than robbing a bank or picking some winning trifectas. I opted for the latter and managed to come up with the downpayment, but also realized that I hate betting on dogs under that kind of pressure. It makes it a lot harder to handicap, as far as I'm concerned.

So, I went back to handicapping to make money for fun stuff like vacations and little extras that I couldn't afford on my paycheck. With only a few exceptions, including one memorable 4-day blitz to get funding for private school for my kids for a year, I haven't tried to earn a living at the track.

If you have nerves of steel, a big bankroll to get you through the inevitable slumps where you don't win for days, and can survive on very little sleep and can thrive on "track food", you might be very successful at making a living at the track. Of course, that's assuming that you have a good handicapping system that consistently picks winners.

If you do decide to go this route, make sure that you do it right. Use your system carefully and consistently. Keep good records and refine your handicapping method constantly, with the data you collect from your records.

Most importantly, don't try to hide your winnings from the IRS. Keep records of your winnings and what you lose. Get a good accountant - one who understands the tax laws related to gambling winnings. Treat "making a living at the dog track" like a job, because that's what it is.

Everybody is impressed when someone puts big money on a dog to win and it comes in at long odds. True, this doesn't happen as often at the dog track as it does at the horse track, but still, it happens.

The trouble with betting large sums of money on dogs to win is that they don't usually pay that much when they win. Unlike at the horse tracks, there's just not usually enough money in the win pool at the greyhound track, to pay much at all.

The crowds are smaller. The odds are different. One big bet can lower the odds tremendously and result in payoffs that aren't worth the risk.

Instead of depending on one dog to make money for you, why not put that dog with two or three others in a quiniela box? Or, if you're determined to go after big money, why not figure out how to play a trifecta with that dog?

Keys and wheels with your dog as the kingpin of the bet can pay much more than a win bet. They also give you many more chances to hit something. Consider putting your dog second also, instead of just first.

Many times, a dog comes in second and you can hear the groans of the people who only bet it to win. So does this mean you should bet dogs to win and place?

Maybe, although that doesn't pay very well either. No, my suggestion is that you stick with small win bets or combine your favorite with other dogs in exotic bets.
